About Dr. Mayer

L. Donald Mayer, D.D.S., M.S.

Dr. Mayer was born in Brenham and raised in La Grange, Texas. He is a Board Certified Orthodontist who graduated from La Grange High School and completed his undergraduate studies at The University of Texas at Austin. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. After practicing general dentistry in Austin, he returned to a residency in Orthodontics at The University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston. Upon graduation, he opened his orthodontic practice in La Grange and Brenham.

Dr. Mayer is a member of the Capital Area Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association, and the American Dental Association. He is also a member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southwestern Society of Orthodontists, and the Texas Association of Orthodontists. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics.

Dr. Mayer has been involved in the community activities as a past president of the La Grange Chamber of Commerce, a Boy Scout leader for 11 years including serving as scoutmaster, a member and past president of the La Grange Noon Lions Club. He has also been involved in Lions Clubs International serving as District Governor, Chairman of the Texas Council of Governors, and as an appointee to the Board of Directors of Lions Clubs International. He has served on the Board of Trustees of the La Grange Independent School District for over 20 years.

Dr. Mayer continues to teach in the Graduate Orthodontic Department of The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston as a clinical associate professor. He serves as treasurer of the Orthodontic Alumni Association of The University of Texas School of Dentistry and also served as president of the that association.

Dr. Mayer and his wife, Karen, are the parents of two sons. Matthew is an orthodontist practicing in Waco and Christopher is an attorney in Houston. Dr. Mayer is an Eagle Scout as are his two sons. Past and present hobbies include water skiing, snow skiing, backpacking, camping, canoeing, horseback riding, and photography. The Mayers are members of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
